Syd's Eastside has been awarded dealer and distributor rights to carry, sell and promote the Interstate-McBee line of quality aftermarket parts for industrial heavy equipment and machinery engines.

Syd's Eastside has spent the past week or so updating its aftermarket heavy equipment and machinery engine parts website at Diesel Rebuild Parts to reflect the addition of this new parts line and manufacturer.

Interstate-McBee represents a significant expansion into our offerings of aftermarket parts for industrial engines both in the addition of more parts offered for CAT products, as well as in the additional brands supported by Interstate-McBee parts. The scope of heavy equipment engine and/or fuel injection parts is broad and includes such names as:

DieselRebuildParts.com Replaces AftermarketCat.com

AftermarketCat.com is No Longer a Syd's Eastside Property
Caterpillar, Inc. has won the rights to the domain name AftermarketCat.com in arbitration. Although we tried to rectify our situation when Caterpillar, Inc. took issue with our using the domain name AftermarketCat.com to sell aftermarket CAT parts by moving the website to another domain, DieselRebuildParts.com, and placing a generic web page there in the old website's place which directed visitors to both of our websites, the assigned arbitrator felt that our first mistake of offering CAT replacement marks was enough to show "bad faith" in the use of the CAT trademark.

While we would have rectified this situation easily and even more quickly if CAT simply would have called us to explain their situation, we do hope that by notifying visitors to the AftermarketCat.com site that operations have moved to DieselRebuildParts.com, that we may well have allowed potential customers the ability to stay with us as a new solution for CAT aftermarket parts. To this end, we remain committed to the aftermarket parts market for the heavy equipment industry, and we have in fact just been awarded the dealership and distributorship rights for Interstate-McBee parts. An official announcement that we are now carrying and distributing the Interstate-McBee line of industrial equipment engine and fuel injection replacement parts will soon follow. The addition of the Interstate-McBee line of aftermarket parts is a perfect compliment to our current line of IPD aftermarket parts for Caterpillar engines.

While we would have been happy to keep AftermarketCat.com and use it as an aftermarket catalog for our automotive parts line, we will find another brand to build and present an automotive aftermarket parts sales brand, and Diesel Rebuild Parts seems to be doing well and generating lots of interest considering that we have not yet had the opportunity to promote well while we awaited the decision of the arbitration procedure.

Soon, the original registrar for AftermarketCat.com, Domain Hostmaster, will transfer this name to Caterpillar, Inc., for them to do what they see fit.

Nissan Luncurkan Frontier Navara di IIMS 2007

PT Nissan Motor Indonesia (NMI) meluncurkan produk terbarunya Frontier Navara di pameran otomotif “Indonesia International Motor Show” (IIMS) ke-15 tahun 2007.

“Nissan Frontier double cab pertama kali dipasarkan di Indonesia tahun 2003. Kini kami memasarkan Frontier Navara, double cab 4x4 yang memiliki desain lebih modern dengan spesifikasi yang lebih lengkap terutama untuk fitur keamanan, kenyamanan, ketangguhan, ruang kabin yang lebih lapang dan performa yang lebih baik di segala medan off-road,” kata Norio Ota, Presiden Direktur NMI, di Jakarta, Kamis.

Frontier Navara bermesin diesel ini memiliki kapasitas mesin 2.500 L dengan pilihan 6-speed manual dan 5-speed matic, dipasarkan dengan harga on the road Jakarta Rp.280juta untuk yang bertransmisi manual, dan Rp.290 juta untuk yang matic.

Pada pameran IIMS ke-15 ini, di samping meluncurkan Frontier Navara, NMI juga memajang 12 line-up Nissan lainnya.

“Sebagian besar line-up yang kami pamerkan adalah Grand Livina, karena produk ini merupakan tulang punggung penjualan Nissan di Indonesia saat ini. Grand Livina yang mulai dipasarkan di Indonesia pada April 2007 ini memiliki 7 varian dengan harga yang kompetitif,” Norio Ota menjelaskan.

Grand Livina dipasarkan di Indonesia dengan 7 varian (tipe) dan dua pilihan mesin, yaitu 1.5L (3 varian) dan 1.8L (4 varian). Rentang harganya mulai dari Rp 140,5 juta hingga Rp 205,5 juta.

Dengan rentang harga yang kompetitif tersebut, Grand Livina merupakan model kunci bagi NMI untuk mencapai target penjualannya di tahun 2007 dan 2008 sekaligus harapan Nissan untuk menjadi salah satu pemain utama di pasar otomotif Indonesia.

Livina sport concept yang hadir di pameran ini adalah versi Livina full modifikasi. Kendaraan konsep ini menampilkan nuansa muda, aktif dan modern. Livina, kendaraan 5-penumpang (dua baris), adalah versi kedua dari keluarga kendaraan global Nissan yang rencananya akan dipasarkan di Indonesia awal tahun 2008.

Berkaitan dengan keikutsertaan Nissan di IIMS, Nissan menyelenggarakan suatu forum presentasi mengenai konsep desain Grand Livina. Hadir sebagai pembicara adalah Koji Nagano, Product Design Director dari Nissan Design Center, Jepang, yang khusus datang ke event ini untuk menerangkan mengenai konsep desain Grand Livina.

“Kami mendesain Grand Livina dengan keindahan fungsional yang melebihi ekspektasi kendaraan di kelasnya. Merupakan kebanggaan bagi kami desain modern dan mewah Grand Livina ini telah merebut hati banyak konsumen di Indonesia. Announcing Diesel Rebuild Parts™

Because of branding problems, we have renamed our AftermarketCat.com website and rebranded it as Diesel Rebuild Parts™.

Never would I have imagined that Caterpillar, Inc. would take issue with our use of the domain name, AftermarketCat.com. It isn't that "Cat" is a common word that is used constantly and is even considered short for the word "catalog", although I suppose this may have enhanced my confusion. But where I had erred has to do with the simple fact that we never considered our business as in competition with CAT®. After all, if people want original equipment parts they would obviously know to go to the original manufacturer, CAT® (or Caterpillar®). It is ludicrous, to me, to think that they would go anywhere else unless they are looking for aftermarket parts. Aftermarket means "not original equipment". But according to them, we are in competition with their engine parts line, and now that I have the opportunity to see the situation from their side, I certainly can see how they could think that.

It is people looking for aftermarket rebuild parts for these industrial engines that will cost less, perform better and/or last longer who will come looking for our products. So, we are not really in any sort of competition with CAT®, and the argument that we are is actually quite a stretch, for me.

Unfortunately, they are right about the branding issue, though. I do see their point. CAT® is a leader not only in the industrial engines market, but is also a leader in an extremely wide and expansive field that includes heavy equipment, mining equipment and turbines, as well. It actually amazes me that I was stupid enough to think of CAT as a generic term, or nickname, that we could use in describing our own brand.

Part of the problem has probably been the influence of the modern search engine. Search engines require specific keywords for any kind of decent search engine results. Since we are offering aftermarket parts for Caterpillar® engines, it seemed that our domain, AftermarketCat.com, was right on the money. Afterall, we are only supporting CAT® engines. And to top that off, we are supporting both the diesel and the natural gas (methane) engines. Obviously, DieselAndNaturalGasEngineParts.com wouldn't have worked. And we wanted a domain that said something about us and was somewhat short and easy to remember. Aftermarket Cat was, after all, downright catchy.

To be sure, this big snafu has been all my fault. I am the marketing director (and webmaster) for Syd's Eastside Auto Parts™. I understand brands as both a graphic designer and a business owner, myself. I am amazed how I could have overlooked such a well-known brand as CAT®. As I look back on it I wonder if it is Caterpillar's own overwhelming huge success that is at least contributing to the problem.

Similar tragedies in successful branding have occurred. I often ask for a Kleenex® when I want a facial tissue, even though I buy Puffs®. And as I see CAT® more everywhere, including NASCAR®, it becomes a thought at the fore front of my brain that only Caterpillar, Inc. could have accomplished through its own advertising success, thereby diluting its own brand. Nevertheless, I am not looking to provide an excuse, I am merely looking to draw some understanding out of my embarrassment.

However, we have not only acknowledged CAT®'s point, but we as a company, Syd's Eastside Auto Parts™, have taken quick and deliberate actions to demonstrate our concern and regard for the issues at hand...

Syd's Eastside Auto Parts has:
1. Moved the entire website to a different domain, DieselRebuildParts.com.
2. Completely rebranded the previous website (using only generic terms) as Diesel Rebuild Parts™.
3. Created a new Trademark logo and favicon graphics for the new website and brand.
4. Thrown-up a generic (non-branded) web page at the old web address of AftermarketCat.com which provides links to both DieselRebuildParts.com and Cat.com to ensure that we are not confusing our customers.
5. Included Cat.com prominently in our web resources directory to ensure that we are not confusing our customers.
6. Enhanced our website's Disclaimer page with regard to our intellecual properties and our non-affiliation with CAT.
7. Included the link to the Disclaimer web page in the Main Menu (this link was previously at the end of each page, above the Copyright notice).
8. Addressed issues concerning wording and phrases used that CAT felt was misleading.

Eventually, we will be issuing a new press release re-announcing our new website, once we are sure that we have addressed all of Caterpillar's concerns. All New CR-V: Ingin Jadi Trendsetter SUV

Generasi ketiga Honda CR-V telah hadir di tanah air. All New CR-V diharapkan Honda menjadi trendsetter SUV kelas premium, yang memadukan ketangguhan SUV dengan kenyamanan setara sedan.

Dibandingkan generasi sebelumnya, ubahan eksterior All New CR-V terbilang cukup signifikan. Front grille-­nya kini mengadopsi desain double-layer, dipadukan dengan projector headlight. Melihat sisi samping, garis jendela yang membentuk kurva mengerucut ke arah buritan membuat tampilannya lebih dinamis. Kesan tangguh dan sporti pun makin kental dengan adanya lower garnish berwarna hitam di sekeliling bodi, plus dukungan velg 17” 7-spokes (untuk versi 2,4L).

Honda juga membenahi segi pengendalian SUV teranyarnya ini. Dengan merancang ulang penempatan mesin dan ban cadangan, All New CR-V memiliki center of gravity lebih rendah. Tingkat kekakuan bodi pun diperbesar, sehingga secara keseluruhan All New CR-V menjanjikan tingkat kestabilan lebih baik. Sementara itu, stabilitas dan pengendaliannya juga didukung pengadopsian MacPherson Strut untuk suspensi depan, dan Reactive Link Double Wishbone untuk suspensi belakang.

Dari sisi aerodinamika, All New CR-V menggunakan sejumlah aerodynamic parts di bagian bawah bodinya untuk mereduksi aliran angin di bawah bodi. Koefisien geseknya kini 0,39, atau lebih baik 10 persen ketimbang generasi sebelumnya, dan downforce-nya pun meningkat 67 persen. Alhasil, dalam kecepatan tinggi, SUV ini diklaim tetap stabil.

Honda menawarkan dua pilihan kapasitas mesin untuk All New CR-V, yakni 2,4L dan 2,0L. Keduanya mengadopsi teknologi i-VTEC, dan termasuk mesin ramah lingkungan karena sudah memenuhi standar EURO-IV.

Varian mesin 2,4L sanggup memuntahkan tenaga sebesar 170 PS pada putaran 5.800 rpm, sementara torsi maksimumnya 22,2kg.m yang dicapai pada putaran 4.200 rpm. Artinya, mesin ini lebih bertenaga ketimbang generasi sebelumnya yang berkekuatan 160PS pada putaran 6.000 rpm. Sementara itu, varian 2.0L-nya memiliki daya maksimum sebesar 150PS pada putaran 6.200rpm, dengan torsi maksimum 19.4kg.m pada 4.200rpm.

Baik varian 2,4L maupun 2,0L sama-sama dilengkapi dengan sistem transmisi otomatis 5-kecepatan, yang perbandingan transmisinya sudah dioptimalkan untuk mencapai akselerasi bertenaga sekaligus penggunaan bahan bakar yang lebih efisien. Sementara, bagi penikmat transmisi manual, Honda menawarkan pilihan transmisi manual 6-kecepatan. Sayangnya, pilihan ini hanya ada pada varian 2,0L.

Melongok interior, All New CR-V menggunakan material berkualitas dengan nuansa warna two-tone ivory. Meter cluster-nya juga tampil beda, dimana tachometer dan speedometer memiliki self-illuminating lights berwarna putih yang jelas terbaca. Di antara kedua indikator itu terdapat sebuah panel LCD, yang menyajikan informasi-informasi seperti indikator bensin, indikator pintu, trip meter, jarak tempuh, rata-rata konsumsi bahan bakar, dan temperatur suhu luar (khusus tipe 2.4L).

Kabinnya pun kini terasa lebih lapang, karena panjang kabin bertambah 70mm ketimbang model sebelumnya. Bangku belakang dapat dilipat dengan pembagian 40:20:40 atau 60:40 dan dapat dilipat ke dua arah, sehingga memberikan total kapasitas kabin sebesar 955 liter.

Selain itu, ruang bagasinya dapat dibagi menjadi dua tingkat dengan rak pembatas yang dinamakan sistem Double Deck Cargo. Sementara untuk kenyamanan kabinnya, All New CR-V dilengkapi dengan dual zone climate control (khusus untuk varian 2,4L).

Dari sisi keamanan berkendara, seperti mobil-mobil Honda pada umumnya, All New CR-V sudah mengaplikasikan teknologi G-Force Control (G-CON) untuk menjaga keutuhan struktur pada ruang penumpang saat terjadi suatu benturan. Sementara untuk benturan samping, All New CR-V sudah mengaplikasikan side impact door beam.

Fitur keamanan aktifnya pun terbilang lengkap, mulai dari seat belt dengan pretensioners, sistem pengereman ABS, EBD, dan BA, serta Dual SRS Airbag untuk pengemudi dan penumpang depan. Sementara itu, untuk mencegah pencurian, immobilizer anti-theft system dan security alarm hadir sebagai kelengkapan standar.

Yaris Hantarkan MTTI Raih Podium Pertama

Mezzo Toyota Team Indonesia (MTTI) berhasil merebut podium pertama pada ITCC (Indonesian Touring Car Championship) Super 1500 cc, dengan pembalapnya Dandy Rukmana. Setelah pada seri pembuka Toyota Yaris MTTI berhasil meraih podium pertama dan kedua pada kelas GT Car Championship, pada seri ke-2 ini Toyota Yaris yang dipersenjatai mesin 1NZ-FE dengan teknologi VVT-i semakin membuktikan kehebatan dan kualitasnya.

Dengan kapasitas mesin yang lebih kecil, Toyota Yaris mampu bersaing dengan mobil balap yang memiliki CC lebih besar. Terbukti bahwa dengan konsumsi bahan bakar yang sangat efisien namun Toyota Yaris mampu menghasilkan tenaga dan performa yang sangat memuaskan.

Tak hanya Toyota Yaris, Toyota Vios pun tetap berjaya menjadi yang terbaik. Di seri kedua ini Toyota Vios menjadi yang tercepat di kelas GTCC dan juga di kelas ITCC Super 1500.

“Dari dua seri yang sudah berjalan ini, Toyota Yaris dan Vios sudah mendominasi. Hal ini menunjukkan kualitas produk Toyota yang memang tangguh dan handal. Serta kemenangan yang telah diraih baik oleh MTTI dan privateer merupakan pembuktian kepada masyarakat mengenai mutu produk Toyota serta keberhasilan program regenerasi Toyota,” ujar Johnny Darmawan, Presiden Direktur PT Toyota Astra Motor.

“Memang memerlukan usaha ekstra untuk bersaing dengan para pembalap lain yang memiliki kapasitas mesin yang lebih besar, tetapi dengan performa yang dimiliki Yaris mampu menghantarkan saya ke podium,” ungkap Dandy Rukmana, pembalap MTTI.

Manajer MTTI Memet Djumhana menambahkan, ”Kami bertekad untuk terus menjadi yang terdepan, dan untuk mewujudkan hal itu kami berusaha semaksimal mungkin. Dengan para pembalap berprestasi kami dan didukung dengan kerjasama dan kekompakan seluruh anggota tim, saya optimis dapat menjadi yang terbaik”.

Sementara itu, Achmad Rizal, Direktur Mezzo Toyota Team Indonesia mengatakan, “Berdasarkan hasil seri pembuka dan kedua ini, Toyota Yaris dan Vios dengan mesin 1NZ-FE dan teknologi VVT-i mampu tidak hanya mendominasi kelasnya tetapi juga dengan mobil balap yang memiliki CC lebih besar.

Karenanya, Toyota Yaris dan Vios semakin banyak digunakan dalam ajang balap ITCC baik oleh tim-tim besar privateer ataupun para pemula, karena dengan konsumsi bahan bakar yang sangat efisien mampu menghasilkan tenaga dan performa yang sangat memuaskan.”

Mezzo Toyota Team Indonesia dengan Toyota Yaris akan kembali menunjukkan ketangguhannya pada seri ke-3 Indonesian Touring Car Championship yang akan digelar pada bulan Juni mendatang di Sirkuit Sentul.
